Worship Ministries

Banner Ministry

When do we meet? Mondays 19:00 — 21:00
Where do we meet? Indawo Yosizo
What time commitment is needed? Approximately 2 hours per week. If and when we need to complete a banner for a specific date we may meet more often, but it is not very often and we arrange times in advance.

Objective/Aim/Goal: We make "fabric" representations of celebrations, etc., which are hung in the front and the back of the church.

Recommended gifts: A love for creativity, crafts, embroidery, sewing, painting, etc.

What we do: We design and make banners using as many different techniques as possible. Fabric applique — using different textures, paints — usually fabric because we try to make all the banners washable. Felt, sewing and embroidery. We try to use people in our congregation with specific talents to help us. So even if you don't want to join us on a regular basis, we can still use your creativity. If you can draw, paint, sew, embroider etc. or have any other talents that you think we may be able to use, even if you have an idea for a banner, come talk to us, we are also open to any new fresh ideas.

We first determine the design for the banner, e.g. find a picture or design a picture according to what we want. We then decide what technique we will use for the banner, e.g. painting, sewing, embroidery etc. or any combination of mixed media. We calculate how much fabric, etc., we will need, and during the next week we will purchase the required materials. Depending on the size we either use the overhead projector to enlarge the picture, to get the correct size, and then begin cutting the fabric pieces, painting, sewing, etc. until the banner is complete.

Dance and Drama

When and where do we meet? When needed

What time commitment is needed? Currently this ministry does not run on a weekly basis. If and when there is a function which we would like to enhance or exenterate the message we will get together and start practicing.

Objective/Aim/Goal: To worship God through dance and drama.

Recommended gifts: Creative expression and a love for dancing and praising God.

What we do: We are going to learn a variety of Christian dances, e.g. Messianic for the young at heart, or the “physically challenged”, drama and mime, hip hop for the energetic, flag worship for everyone including men, the youth dance on Fridays to get younger youth going and we teach the dance steps to the children at Holiday Club.
Please speak to Cherry if you are interested in this ministry.

Sound Desk

When and where do we meet? Sundays – 7:30am, 09:00am and 17:30pm in the church

What time commitment is needed? If there are enough people to share the work, the time commitment will be less. With enough volunteers it should only be one service every 2 – 3 weeks. If you have committed to this ministry it is important that you are there for your shift, arriving at least half an hour before the service and stay both services.

Objective/Aim/Goal: The aim of any sound operator is to strive for clarity with minimal distortion, to operate the sound desk for the duration of the service. We are living in a world of technology. Used correctly, and managed competently, audio and video technologies can be a great tool in the hands of the church, allowing them to communicate with their community in a powerful and contemporary manner.

Recommended gifts: An interest and knowledge of sound equipment, but training will be given.

What we do: Switch on and set up the sound desk. Plug microphones in if they are needed. Make sure the sound is right. Put music on before the service if there is no-one playing instruments. Mute, un-mute relevant microphones during the service. Make sure the Minister is set up with headphones. In our modern era, electronic aids are available to enhance the praise and worship of the local body of Christ.
