Book Table

When and where do we meet? Four times a year after each service at the church.

What time commitment is needed? Four weekends a year.

Objective/Aim/Goal: To provide books, CDs and DVDs as well as jewellery, stickers, Bible covers, pens, pencils, bookmarkers, calendars, gifts for members of the congregation. We buy books etc. for our library with the profit so we can have useful references at church permanently.

Recommended gifts: Discernment — because we try to choose items with people in mind, a joyful spirit, a love of music and reading.

What we do: We go to Zoe's Christian bookshop in Boksburg and choose a whole lot of material and resources for people to learn from. Bring them to the church services on Sunday to sell and the profit money buys books or DVDs for the church library.

What we do: Being a newly developing ministry, we have an average of 70 prisoners countrywide with whom we correspond frequently. Sewing and Knitting

When and where do we meet? Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 09h00 to 11h00 at Indawo Yosizo

What time commitment is needed? If you decide to give a lesson it will be once a week, but if you decide to come and help out while we are giving lessons, you can choose which day and how long you want to stay.

Objective/Aim/Goal: To teach under-privileged people a skill which they can use to help supplement their income.

Recommended gifts: Any skills which you can teach, e.g. embroidery, painting, woodwork, cooking, etc.

What we do: We have knitting, sewing and crochet projects on a Thursday, which they progress through making about three items per craft. When they have completed the three we give them knitting needles, crochet hooks, etc. so they can carry on from home. We work for about 2 hours, from 9am to 11am and when they leave we give them a packet of maize flour and some vegetables.
We make clerical shirts and any other items that we are asked to make.
Participants are taught how to sew; thereby creating employment, but the ministry also gives them a platform to sell from.
It is our aim to create a market for all clothes that are made at the centre.
